Academic Background

Graduate in law from the Complutense University of Madrid and member of the Madrid Bar Association since 1973. In 1973, she graduated in Clinic and Industrial Psychology at the Psychology and Psychotechnic Institute of the Complutense University of Madrid.

Professional Experience

Maria embarked on her professional career in the law firm ESTUDIO JURÍDICO BAYLOS, founded by Hermenegildo Baylos Corroza in 1943, specialising in Intellectual Property and Copyrights.  This was one of the first Spanish law firms to specialise in this field. 

From October 2003 to August 2007 she was a founder partner of the law firm GRAU, BAYLOS & ANGULO.

Since August 2007 she is one of the partners of the law firm ESTUDIO JURÍDICO BAYLOS.

Member of the OMPI Panel of Experts for the solution of controversies regarding generic domain names and code country domain names <.es>.

Member of Honour of the Spanish Group of the AIPPI (International Association for the Intellectual Property Protection)

Former President of the Spanish Group of the AIPPI between 2000 and 2004 and Former Secretary of ALADDA (Spanish branch of the International Literary and Artistic Association-ALAI) from 1996 to 2000.

She has been a lecturer in Mercantile Law in postgraduate courses at the CEOE, and has given papers at numerous national and international meetings and conferences.

Areas of Practice

Intellectual Property, specialising in patent, trademark and industrial design litigations, copyright, unfair competition and domain names.

Publications

She collaborated with Hermenegildo Baylos Corroza on the second edition of his work “Treatise on Industrial Law”, which was published in 1993, the first edition having been published in 1978. This is the only existing work in Spain which brings together in one single treatise all kind of issues related to intellectual property; its history, theories and the regulation of the various institutions protected by Intellectual Property, Copyrights and Fair Competition.
